A great espionage thriller that beckons Tom Clancy readers.

Cal “Spectre” Martin returns to the sequel of the self-titled book, Spectre Rising. Spectre is recruited by a military contractor that executes unacknowledged operations that the United States can’t do. On a top-secret mission in the Middle East flying close air support, Sepctre is shot down and captured. He calls upon his Krav Maga tenants, “Avoid, negotiate, kill” to escape his captors. After being rescued and fired from his employer, Spectre goes to visit his friends which turns deadly. After surviving an assassination attempt at a hospital, Spectre goes to the F.B.I. to find out who’s behind the attacks.

I like how the author portrays Spectre spiralling into depression after the deaths of his loved ones and doesn’t put up a fight after being taken captive by a foreign agent until they threaten Spectre’s love interest, he finds the will to fight. Spectre couldn’t avoid the former Cuban agent, Victor. He didn’t want to negotiate with Spectre. So Spectre must kill. I would recommend this book to read on its own, but its’ better if read as part of the series.
