Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arise

Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these sunken eyes and learn to see
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to be free

Blackbird fly, blackbird fly
Into the light of a dark black night

Blackbird fly, blackbird fly
Into the light of a dark black night

Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arise
You were only waiting for this moment to arise
You were only waiting for this moment to arise

WE HAVE:

Book reviews by inmates, for other inmates, their families, and friends.

OUR MISSION:

Promote social change through self-help, and liberty through freedom of the mind.

Is it too late? A simple question, but the complexity of its answer knows no bounds. Behind bars watching the hands of the clock as they endlessly march forward, the value of time becomes painfully clear. With the realization of lost moments with loved ones and the disappearance of time in our communities, it becomes necessary to recapture those opportunities in order to build a life of success.

It is our belief that each moment locked away doesn’t have to be wasted. As inmates, we have the ability to learn, reflect and grow while incarcerated. Even with minimal tools provided to us by the system, we have the chance to be more if we work at it. Some of the keys to a successful reintroduction to our communities is furthering our knowledge, while at the same time improving our mental health. Books are one tool that is readily available to inmates that can improve those two targetted keys.

At this site, you will find through a network of families and individuals that care for current and/or former inmates, the needed tools for a lifetime of positive change.

Each book reviewed on this site will be written by an inmate, done with the incarcerated individual in mind. The hope in these reviews is that they might help to get an understanding of the content before any purchases might be made by the supporters, either for the inmates or for themselves as well. In this goal of inmate-led reviews, it is our desire that others reading the books can find areas of positive mental health to work on. These reviews are for inmates and their network of supporters to be given a glimpse of the knowledge a book holds and how reading it will help in their mental and spiritual growth. All book types and levels will always be welcomed because the opportunities for positive change exist for all of us.

The reviews will be real and anonymous, written by current and/or past inmates, mailed, then posted by a moderator supporting the cause. Our hope is to create an environment where all feel welcome to contribute. We understand that growth can come in many ways. So, if you feel writing reviews at the moment is beyond your ability, we will have places for other positive writings and artwork. If you feel lost and alone with nowhere to turn, don’t! You have a community here to help you learn and grow.

So, is it too late? With faith and effort, it will never be too late for us to make our lives better if we hold on to hope.

Yours Truly,

Blackbird (Current Inmate & Founder)
