Humility is needed for change
Becoming incarcerated was a wake call for me that my life needed to change to find the peace and joy I wanted. I think for a large portion of my life I felt I was constantly getting stuck in ruts, just going along without much thought from one rut to the next. The whole time it just left me with this feeling of being unfulfilled and angry. The ones closest to me usually had to bare the brunt of these unhealthy behavior. I knew I needed to change, but something kept holding me back. I wasn't ready for the change I needed until I accepted that I didn't have all the answers and that the answers might require me to travel to places I was uncomfortable to look at in myself in the past. I needed to learn to have humility.
Inside of jail I have met numerous inmates wanting change and wanting to better their lives but they seem never to find a way out of this cycle of incarceration. The easiest thing for many people to do is to blame the system for holding them in place. However, if an individuals actions and mindset stays rooted in the same thinking patterns on how the world should be it isn't that surprising when things repeat themselves over and over. I believe that having an unhealthy level of pride and stubbornness is what keeps so many individuals for achieving their dreams and making the change they deserve. I know for me this was an obstacle that kept me locked down.
Humility is needed for change. Humility is needed for being willing to ask for help in achieving goals. I had to look in the mirror and admit that I didn't have all the answers for my fulfillment and to achieve then I needed to lower my level of pride. This was not easy. We all like to believe we have all the answers in life and that our way is the best. I'm not saying that all individukas are wrong in their thinking, but I'm asking to reflect on that there might possibly a better unseen way. This is the thinking pattern I adopted here and it has helped me explore new things, build new relationships and gain a deeper level of peace and understanding. So as you go through your day let humility help guide you past obstacles in life that pride might have held you back from overcoming.
