Is this book right for me and/or my inmate?

People dealing with change and resistent to leaving their comfort zone can get a better understanding of what maze be holding them back from this book.

Review By: Blackbird (Inmate)

The individual choices we make when dealing with our changing lives.

Most of my life I lived afraid of the unknown around me. I accepted fear and anxiety as a needed part of my life because the courage to change to new situations outside of my comfort zone was a scary risk of failure. This lead me to stay stagnant in life never really moving forward to the places I knew in my heart I wanted to be. I have met many inmates that share these same fears of the unknown that change brings during my time incarcerated. It seems like a very common emotional state that keeps holding us in a place like this, even when we know we want something more. This book allowed me to reflect on what is holding me to still stay in my comfort zone of life ad question why I don’t have the ability to move out of it toward progress.

In Who Moved My Cheese? , we meet four characters that have built their lives around a giant cheese pile. Life is easy and all is well until the pile begins to shrink to nothing. Each character reacts in a different way when they are presented with the reality that they must enter the maze to find the new cheese they seek. I was able to relate to all of the characters in different ways, and each taught me a specific lesson on how to deal with the changing world. I saw my past flaws in many of my thinking and learned the lessons of courage for others. What I took away from this book for myself was that it will probably always be uncomfortable and a little scary leaving my comfort zone in life. However change is a reality that I will always be presented with. Denying the need to move when called for will only hurt myself and all of those in my life. I learned I can lessen the fear if I plan properly and reflect about the world around me constantly. I believe this book think provide other inmates that courage to take positive steps when they feel the urge to change in endurance to keep going even when scared. I will remember this book when change happens to me.
