Review By: Blackbird (Inmate)

Building a beautiful life of faith no matter what your starting limits are.

To be born without arms and legs is a struggle of life I will never know. However, the struggle of disappointment from finding myself in unplanned hardships that have become my reality, I can fully understand. The book, “Life without Limits,” by Nick Vujicic has helped me cope with my current never-expected painful situation by reminding me I get the choice of how I can live no matter the set backs.

Nick Vujicic was born with neither arms or legs and his life’s journey has been filled with ups ad downs. Whether it has been relationships consumed by doubts of his abilities, work expectations or just getting around in a world build for able bodied individuals, Nick has been frequently faced with perceived limits placed upon him by others. In this book, I learned that even though it might not be an ideal planned out easy life we are given, we have the chance to make it meaningful if we have faith.

I never expected to find myself in jail, but this is the painful reality that I now find myself in. Yet, I see from reading this book that I am never alone, because God is with me, urging me on to continue making every chance I get into something more that I can give to others. The book has powerful moments of real grief and despair his family faced as they all came to grips with the reality of what Nick’s life would be versus what they had planned in dreams.

I have held big hopes and dreams for life too and even though I find myself in a different place, it doesn’t have to mean I must limit myself from becoming more than this. Like Nick, building a plan for success based on the foundation of faith in God is a helpful step I can relate to. After reading this book, I learned to accept my current reality, but I realize I have the choice to build a life of purpose and success. Maybe for any other inmate struggling to overcome unplanned failures of life, this can provide some hope.

Book Quotes:

“We can choose to respond to loss or failure by despairing and giving up, or we can let the loss or failure serve as a learning experience and motivation to do better.”

“As a child of God, I know that He is always with me, and I’m comforted to know that He understands how much we can bear.”
