Review By: Blackbird (Inmate)

A child’s look into heaven.

In jail it is easy to feel alone and believe that there is nothing more for us in this life. With numerous past disappointments it can leave inmates feeling that giving up is an option, because God has forgotten about them. This book by, Todd Burpo gives readers a glimpse into heaven and the possible afterlife that waits us. In his own story about his son it might hopefully bring people back to God, because they realize there is something beautiful waiting for them in heaven if they don't give up faith here, right now.

I use to question if God was real and if there was anything after this life. I felt detached from those around me and lacked a guiding purpose. I was very much lost in a way and all my relationships suffered because of it. When I arrived at jail those feelings only grew because all I could focus on was the disappointment I felt. Once, I started to rebuild my relationship with God and renewed my faith in something greater than myself I finally began to find peace. Reading this book reminded me of my own journey in that way. It helped reaffirm God is here waiting for us and there is heaven for us to enter, so we must work towards being worthy of it with our daily actions.

In this true story we follow a preacher whose young son almost dies in surgery. We read about howthe 4 year old boy is taken to visit heaven for a brief period. The child comes back to earth to share his journey and the lessons learned with all of us. It is an entertaining read that helps reinforce a persons faith in God.

I really think that this could be a powerful book for anyone questioning their faith. Inmates that lose faith that there is something more to this life, even if it is a spiritual reward for a souls growth run the risk of giving up and coming back to incarnation at a much higher rate I believe. If you need a little holy JumpStart to get going again try this book out.

Book Quotes

"In a boxing match, the fighters absorb some vicious blows because they're ready for them. And usually, the knockout lunch is the one they didn't see coming."

"It's good to be strong and able to bless others, yes. But we learned the value of being vulnerable enough to let others be strong for us, to let others bless us."
