Learning to see world as a life of endless opportunities for growth.

I use to have one of the worst fixed mindsets of anyone I knew. I believed for a long time that I was incapable of change and how I was, even when negative, was just they way things were meant to be. I thought that I was stuck in my negative thinking patterns of anger, anxiety and depression. This led me to take it out on the people around me. One of the worst things about my negative fixed mindset was I thought all people were like me incapable of change for the better. I was living without peace. I believe that many inmates are like me in this way. We have been stuck in the comfort zone of easy negative thinking for so long that we can't imagine that we can grow from where we are. That type of thinking won't bring us freedom.

After I became incarcerated I began taking classes on social and emotional health and the topic of a growth mindset came up in lessons frequently. It is being able to see the world and life as having the potential for progress always. All that is required is a positive mind, hard work, reflection and a strong plan to follow. This book is a great tool for teaching people new to the concepts of a growth mindset the basic strategies for success.

When I starting practing the lessons of learning to adapt to the world with a growth mindset I started to find a level of peace and understanding of myself I never experienced before. I can see the challenges and setbacks I face in life as opportunities for growth towards success. In reading this book I have been provided a clear path to understand and follow ways I can build the life of joy and caring I know I deserve. If your inmate feels that they are too old to change or they have been in the system for too long to try a different path please give them this book. It can bring them one step closer to the freedom and peace they deserve.
